SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS (HEREDITARY CANCER TESTS)

Sample: EDTA Blood (Please view instructions in the kit)

Note: 1) Consent form & PAS Form to be filled 2) As a separate kit is required for each of these tests, please enquire for procuring the same

SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS (LBC – NON -GYNECOLOGY)

1) Fine Needle Aspirate Specimens:

  1. A) Please deposit and rinse the entire sample into a centrifuge tube containing 30ml of CytoLyt Solution. (We provide these to any center wanting to send LBC Non-Gyn sample) This is separate from the Thin prep container
  2. B) Once we receive this in the lab, it will be centrifuged (for 10mins at 2000 R P. M) and the pellet obtained hereafter will be transferred to the Non Gyn LBC vial. (The Gyn Thin Prep container cannot be used for Non-Gyn)

Storage Requirements

Store the Cytolyt containers at 15°– 30°C without the cells/aspirate contents

Cells in CytoLyt Solution are preserved for 8 days at room temperature; However, for optimal results, please transport specimen to the laboratory immediately for processing.

Note

1) Direct smears are necessary for all FNA’s to assess architecture and must accompany the material in cytolyt solution.

2) Mucoid Specimens: Either in cytolyt solution or in a plain sterile container.

3) Fluid Specimens: In a plain container.

4) Superficial Specimens: Superficial brushings and scrapings are the only non-gynecologic sampleswhich can be collected directly into LBC Thin Prep Non Gyn vial

Storage Requirements

Store LBC Thin Prep Non Gyn vial between 15° C (59° F) and 30°C (86°F).

Store LBC Thin Prep Non Gyn vial with non-gynecological cytologic sample between 4°C (39° F)and 37°C (98°F) for up to 3 weeks.

SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS (LBC – GYNECOLOGY)

Broom like device protocol

Obtain

An adequate sampling from the cervix using a broom-like device. If desired, use lukewarm water to warm and lubricate the speculum. Water-soluble gel lubricant sparingly applied to the posterior blade of the speculum can be used if necessary. 1 Insert the central bristles of the broom into the endocervical canal deep enough to allow the shorter bristles to fully contact the ectocervix. Push gently, and rotate the broom in a clockwise direction five times.

Rinse

The broom as quickly as possible into the PreservCyt solution vial by pushing the broom into the bottom of the vial 10 times, forcing the bristles apart. As a final step, swirl the broom vigorously to further release material. Discard the collection device.

Tighten

The cap so that the torque line on the cap passes the torque line on the vial.

Record

The patient’s name and ID number on the vial and the patient information and medical history on the cytology requisition form.

Place

The vial and requisition in a specimen bag for transport to the laboratory.
